Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969)


The Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Architectural and Furniture Drawings, 1946-1961, were a gift to Avery Library from Edward A. Duckett, transferred from The Art Institute of Chicago in 1986.

This collection contains 452 blueprint and diazo working drawings created between 1946 and 1961 for projects designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The buildings represented include the 860-880 Lake Shore Drive Apartments, the 2400 Lakeview Avenue Apartments, the Commonwealth Promenade Apartments, various buildings on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology, all in Chicago, as well as the Bacardi Company building in Mexico City and the Pavillion Apartments for the Lafayette Park Redevelopment in Detroit. Also included in the collection are full-size working drawings for the Brno Chair, a dining room chair, a couch, the MR chair, and the Tugendhat chair.
