Columbia University Libraries/Information Services is pleased to announce that the University of Chicago Library has joined Borrow Direct, a service which enables current faculty, students, and staff of Columbia University to borrow books and music scores directly from member libraries.
The University of Chicago is the tenth participating institution and joins Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Yale University.
Borrow Direct is a rapid request and delivery system for materials between and among participating libraries. Faculty, students, and staff of participating institutions can request circulating materials directly from the library where they are held, without the intervention of library staff. The materials are then delivered to the borrowing patron's library via commercial courier services, normally within four business days. The circulating collections of the Borrow Direct libraries include more than 50 million volumes, and more than 1.5 million items have been shared across the partnership since it was initiated in 1999.
Using the Borrow Direct service, Columbia faculty, students, and staff borrowed more than 33,000 items and Columbia University Libraries lent more than 22,000 items to partner libraries in the 2012-2013 academic year.
For questions about using Borrow Direct, visit the Libraries' Borrow Direct information page.
