Install Browser Search Plugins
The new search plugins are available for quick browser searches for CLIO, World Cat, the Columbia University email/phone directory, the Libraries website, and much more! The plugins are designed to work for both Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0+. Install any of the search plugins, and then select it from your browser's search box drop-down list to start searching.

googlescholar

Google Scholar retrieves references to books, abstracts, and ejournal articles from selected university and scholarly repositories. Columbia's Google Scholar link above also provides direct links to the full-text article for materials in our holdings.

googlebooks

Google Book Search searches the full text of books that Google scans and stores in its digital database. It provides online access to full text of public domain and out-of-copyright books, reproduced either from text provided by publishers or by the libraries.

Bibliographic Management Tools

EndNote: Bibliographic Software
EndNote bibliographic software allows you to create bibliographies instantly, download citations from electronic resources, and insert formatted citations effortlessly into your Word documents. To learn how to use EndNote, go to the workshops page for a class schedule.

RefGrab-It
RefGrab-It - a part of RefWorks - works with your browser to capture bibliographic information from web pages giving you the option to import that data into your RefWorks account (See instructions on setting up your account).Consult the Online Help for instruction on how to capture web page data with RefGrab-It, as well as documentation on using RefWorks. RefGrab-It works with both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Zotero
Zotero is a Firefox extension that helps you manage, cite, and collect research sources. It runs in your Firefox web browser and offers a range of research organizing tools. Consult the Quick Start Guide for tips and screencasts on how to get started using Zotero. Also, to learn how to use Zotero, go to the workshops page for a class schedule.

The Mobile Resources page offers a select list of resources for which mobile versions exist.  These resources are mobile browser optimized unless specified by the iPhone or android app icon.

Britannica Widgets
From Encyclopedia Britannica Webshare, these widgets, which allow you to quickly and easily explore a variety of topics, are pre-created and ready to embed into websites.

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) Browser Lookup Tools
When you add the OED to your browser using one of the OED Online Lookup Tools, you can highlight a word on any web page, click on the Search OED Online button on your browser toolbar, and the OED Online Find Word search will display the results in your browser window. (Note: JavaScript must be enabled)
