What is a call number? How can I locate a book using a call number?
A call number represents an item's subject matter and indicates the location on the shelf where the item can be found. The most common call number type is Library of Congress (LC). You can use a Call Number Browse or a Call Number Exact Search in CLIO for LC call numbers. To search for Dewey, local library numbers, SuDoc, and Microform call numbers, use Call Number Exact.
Within the CLIO record, the location field displays the owning library and the CLIO Location Guide. Use the call number in conjunction with the maps, floor plans, and stacks and call number guides for the respective libraries to determine which stack and floor the material located on.
