The Reprographic Section in the Drawings and Archives Department of Avery Library provides photographic reproductions of materials for the purposes of study, publication, and other appropriate uses.
The Library is not a photo archive and, as such, does not maintain collections and files of photographs for the express purpose of photo research.
It is the responsibility of the patron to determine if the desired item is part of the Avery Library collection and its source within the collection. In many cases, the credit line "Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library" on a photograph means that the image comes from a volume within the collection, rather than being an individual image owned by the Library.
We only photograph items from Avery Library. Orders for microfilm and photographs of items held by the Rare Book and Manuscript Library must be placed through them; orders for items from other departments must be placed through the Preservation Reformatting Department.
The costs involved in ordering photographic copies do not include permission fees where applicable. See Permission Fees for Publication and Media Use of Images from the Avery Collection.
