A profile of water resources in Sierra Leone. "The 'thirst' for water data is ever increasing and there is indeed considerable demand for data on rural water use from national governments and development agencies. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations initiated an activity in 1993 to meet this demand with particular focus on irrigation. This resulted in the AQUASTAT Programme, the objective of which is to generate rural water use data at country level in a systematic manner."

"...Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA) together with local communities, launched a project in May 2002 to restore Tiwai Island in southern Sierra Leone as a model for protected area management and community development. The overall goal of the project is to revive biodiversity research, conservation and ecotourism activities at Tiwai by engaging local communities in small-scale and well-targeted activities on the island...The project had a variety of stakeholders, with Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (CEPF) support, EFA in partnership with Njala University College (NUC), the Forestry Department and the local communities participated in coordinating the project."
