Reproduction Request Form
The Burke Library allows the reproduction of materials from its special collections, in compliance with donor stipulations and with the fair use clause of the United States copyright law, when such reproduction can be done without damage to individual items. It is the user's responsibility to obtain permission to publish texts and facsimiles from the owners of the copyright. The Library does not hold the copyright to items in its collections. Copies and images made for or by researchers are for their own personal, non-commercial use. Our policy prohibits reproduction of an entire collection.
Self-service, non-flash digital photography of rare book materials in the Special Collections Reading Room (located on floor L3 of the library, adjacent to the Main Reading Room) must be approved in advance.
Reproduction of special collections materials are performed by the Reader Services Assistant at the Burke Library. We can provide reproductions as photocopies or digital files at $.25 per book page, up to 50 pages per item, plus $10 for shipping/handling up to the first 100 pages, and $8 for every subsequent 100 pages. Please note that the Library's sale of a reproduction does not imply an authorization to publish it.
Prepayment is required, but do not make payment until you receive an invoice from the library staff. We accept cash (in person), checks, and money orders. All payments must be in U.S. dollars, and checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to The Burke Library, Columbia University. Mail checks to:

Questions concerning reproductions may be directed to the Reader Services Assistant:
There is a dishonored check charge of $20.00 for any check returned by the bank. Due to the volume of requests and staffing constraints, the staff can spend no more than thirty-minutes with patrons at a distance in identifying materials to be reproduced and in preparing the order forms. Patrons who submit reproduction requests requiring more than one half-hour of staff time will be asked to do the additional work in person or to hire a research assistant. For high quality digital photography or microfilm duplications, contact Columbia’s Preservation Reformatting Division.
