Microsoft Communicator
Mac

Microsoft Communicator

Microsoft Communicator works with Microsoft Office Communications Server to provide real-time collaboration between people in different locations in real time by using several methods of communication, including instant messaging (IM), presence, Web conferencing, and audio/video (A/V) conferencing.

Fugu
Mac

Fugu

Fugu is a graphical frontend to Mac OS X's command-line Secure File Transfer application (SFTP). SFTP is similar to FTP, but unlike FTP, the entire session is encrypted, meaning no passwords are sent in cleartext form, and is thus much less vulnerable to third-party interception.

PuTTY
PC

PuTTY

PuTTY is an easy-to-use telnet and SSH program for Windows developed by Simon Tatham. CUIT recommends PuTTY for connecting to Pine and the CUNIX servers and other telnet/SSH hosts over the internet.

Remote Desktop Connection
Mac

Remote Desktop Connection

New Multiple Session Support gives Mac users simultaneous access to multiple Windows-based PCs or to a network server that hosts remote applications and files. Since it is a Universal application, Remote Desktop Connection Client 2 is compatible with the latest technologies on Windows and Mac platforms.

Remote Desktop Protocol is disabled on DSC machines, and Remote Desktop Connection is only to be used to map a drive.

WinSCP
PC

WinSCP

WinSCP is a secure FTP program developed by Martin Prikryl. CUIT recommends WinSCP for transferring files over the Internet, especially to the cunix.cc.columbia.edu server.
