In class talks
We are available to talk with your students about GIS resources on campus, finding data (specific to your class) and services provided by the DSSC Data Service.
On demand & embedded class workshops
For non-GIS focused classes needing to introduce GIS into the course through short workshops, please contact us and let us know what you are looking to do and we can see what is possible. In the past, we have given modified intro workshops geared toward a particular course topic, workshop on georeferencing, digitizing and extracting information from maps. Cartographic Design Workshop
At the end of each semester we offer a cartographic design workshop geared towards students taking introductory GIS courses who are in the process of producing project presentations and papers as the end of the semester approaches.
ArcGIS student edition
ArcGIS is available in all CUIT labs and the three Library Digital Centers, but if you would like to request copies for your students to install on personal machines, please fill out the service request form from the the Center for International Earth Information Network (CIESIN) GIS Service Center. Your students can also request individual copies using the same form.
ESRI Modifiable Pre-made Lab Assignments
SpatialLABS are standalone activities complete with exercises in Word and PDF, along with data which can be used as is or as modifiable starting templates to better fit your course. For access, please email us at email@example.com.
ESRI Virtual Campus courses
ESRI Virtual campus offers self-paced courses covering a wide range of topics utilizing ESRI software. Visit the ESRI Virtual Campus page for the list of available courses and the registration form. The DSSC administers the registration process on behalf of the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), Columbia's official contact for ESRI products and services.
