Drew Gilpin Faust to Give Lecture on This Republic of Suffering

NEW YORK, February 24, 2010 –

The Friends of the Columbia Libraries are pleased to present a lecture by Drew Gilpin Faust, President and Lincoln Professor of History at Harvard University, on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 6:00 pm at Faculty House, 64 Morningside Drive. The event is co-sponsored by The Herbert H. Lehman Center for American History and is free and open to the public.

Drew Gilpin Faust, author of This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War, is president of Harvard University and the Lincoln Professor of History on Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. This Republic received the 2009 Bancroft Prize from Columbia University. She is the author of six books, including Mothers of Invention: Women of the Slaveholding South in the American Civil War (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 1996).
