The acquisition in 1957 of the core of the Jay Papers, more than 2,000 documents, and subsequent gifts and purchases led to the publication of The Papers of John Jay. This leading project in historical documentary editing was founded by the late Richard B. Morris, the Gouverneur Morris Professor of History at Columbia. John P. Kaminski is the founder and director of the Center for the Study of the American Constitution at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is the editor of The Quotable Jefferson and The Founders on the Founders: Word Portraits from the American Revolutionary Era as well as the author or co-author of over 15 other books on early U.S. history.
