Newly Renovated 4th floor completes Milstein Library
COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES, Tuesday, July 10, 2001 Just before the July 4th holiday, the remaining area of Butler's 4th floor opened completing the Philip L. Milstein Family College Library as fully renovated. Even before the last book was moved into the new reading rooms, several students were already studying at the new tables and carrels, enjoying this most recent addition of the Butler Renovation Project
Joining the Periodical & Microforms Reading Room which opened in March 2001, the new Milstein area on the 4th floor includes four reading rooms with ample open study space at 6-person tables, individual study carrels and some lounge seating; the portion of the undergraduate circulating collection covered by call numbers KF - Z; and 6 new group study rooms-a first for the Libraries. As has been the case elsewhere in the renovation of Butler, power/data connectivity is available throughout the newly opened 4th floor inviting laptop use to facilitate research and study. AcIS will be adding network printing capability and several CNet stations before the start of the Fall 2001 semester.
We are proud of this latest enhancement of Butler Renovation and encourage all library users to visit and enjoy the wonderful reading rooms.
Renovation now moves up to Butler's 5th floor to make improvements to the Libraries' Administrative and Human Resources staff areas. Please note that the West side of the 5th floor will be closed during the construction period which is expected to continue until November of this year.
