Starr Library Receives Book Donation from Taiwan's National Central Library
The C. V. Starr East Asian Library received a substantial donation of books from Taiwan's National Central Library. The donation of some 350 titles in well over 400 volumes of recent Taiwanese publications was formally presented at a reception in the Starr Library on Friday April 2, 2010, by Andrew Kao, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York. Starr’s Acting Director Ria Koopmans-de Bruijn received the donation for the library.
Speaking on behalf of all faculty, students and scholars who will be the main beneficiaries of this donation, Professor Myron Cohen, Director of Columbia's Weatherhead East Asian Institute, expressed appreciation, and indicated that the books will prove very useful in the context of many Taiwan-related courses offered at Columbia. The institute, he said, will also hold a seminar, titled "Taiwan in the 21st Century," in Taiwan on June 13.
