New Book on Costume Design Collections for Dance, Theatre, and Film

NEW YORK, September 17, 2010 –

Documenting: Costume Design (Performing Arts Resources, Volume 27), is the second volume, published by the Theatre Library Association, which focuses on performance design documentation. Intended for librarians, archivists, researchers, and designers, the volume provides a comprehensive introduction to the extraordinary costume design collections for dance, theatre, and film held by libraries, archives, and museums in the United States.

The volume features introductory surveys which provide the historical context of costume design to dance, theatre, and film. Descriptive essays discuss the remarkable collections and the range of materials available for research as well as issues related to research, preservation, digitization, and access. The volume also includes a 16-page color insert of costume renderings.

The book's editor, Nancy Friedland, is librarian for Butler Media, Film Studies and Performing Arts at Columbia University. Also contributing to the volume are Nancy Friedland and Mary Cargill, Reference Librarian at Columbia University.
