Carroll holds an M.S. in Library Science from Syracuse University; an M.A. in Creative Writing from City University of New York; and a B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in Agribusiness from Washington State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He joined the Libraries in 1997, serving as an Assistant Head in Serials Acquisitions Services in the Technical Support and Acquisitions Division. During the past 15 years, Carroll has continued to climb the ranks in Acquisitions and Collection Development.
He has also participated in numerous committees and working groups, including 2CUL, a partnership with Cornell University, the Scholarly Communications Advisory Board, MaRLI (Manhattan Area Research Library Initiative), PERC (Print & Electronic Resources Coordinating Committee), and many more.
"We are seeing extraordinary changes in the way information is produced, collected, organized and shared," Carroll said. "This presents libraries with great opportunities as well as significant challenges. The Libraries, with their rich, deep collections and their commitment to partnering with other institutions of comparable scope, are in a position that is perhaps unprecedented in their ability to expand access to resources in support of teaching and learning. I am excited for the opportunity to take part in this significant transition."
Carroll is a vital and active member of the academic library community. He has developed and implemented training for acquisitions staff, taught an acquisitions course in the MLS program at Long Island University, as well as participated in and presented at numerous professional conferences, such as the ACRL-NY Annual Meeting and the Ithaka Conference on Sustainable Scholarship, among more.
His position was effective August 1, 2012.
