To obtain access to the Columbia University Libraries, an eligible New York University student, faculty, or staff member must present his or her valid NYU identification card and a government issued photo ID card at the Library Information Office. The Access Card is valid for the Columbia semester during which it is issued. Please verify the hours of the Library Information Office before planning your visit.
Staff in the Library Information Office will issue a reader's card.
The Columbia Libraries Access Card does not include borrowing privileges. Certain CD-ROM and on-line databases, for which there is a heavy demand by Columbia's primary user group of students, faculty and staff, are not available for use by others. In addition, access to Butler Library is restricted to services hours.
There are access restrictions for the following libraries at Columbia University:
- Health Sciences Library access is limited to New York University Medical and Dental faculty.
- Law Library access is limited to New York University Law School faculty and students.
