Columbia University is a member of SHARES. Students, faculty and staff from a SHARES insitituion outside of New York City are entitled to reading privileges at the Columbia libraries. Borrowing privileges may be purchased. The monthly fee for borrowing is $100, plus $20 for the CU photo ID.
Most electronic resources are available on the public computers. Some electronic resources require Columbia student level privileges, and are not available to visitors from a SHARES institution.
Printing requires purchasing printing dollars, and requires a UNI, University Network ID, which may be otained in the Library Information Office.
Researchers have access to the open stacks in the CU libraries. Most libraries have public computers that do not require logging in. Use of the computer labs is restricted to Columbia students. WiFi is available in most library locations.

Visitors must pick up their reader cards in the Library Information Office in room 201 Butler. This office is located just off the main entrance to Butler Library. Office hours may be found here. The hours for the Columbia libraries may be found here.
Visitors will be required to show their institutional ID, and a government issued photo ID card.
