To borrow library materials you will need to present your Columbia University, Barnard College, Teachers College, or Union Theological Seminary ID card to the circulation desk.
If you have questions about your privileges, please contact the Library Information Office inside the front entrance of Butler Library (E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org Phone: 212-854-7309). An ID card from Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, without an additional Columbia ID card, allows you to borrow only from the Health Sciences Library.

Most ReCAP monographs published post-1851 have a standard loan period of 1-term, depending on the patron status. Special collections and fragile material are In-library use only.
Serial volumes are generally available for a 1-week, non-renewable loan. Special collections and fragile material are In-library use only. For more information view the FAQ for off-site serials from ReCAP.
Exception: Serial volumes owned by Starr East Asian have a 2-week loan period, renewable up to 10 times.
Most ReCAP microforms have a standard loan period of 2 weeks, renewable up to 10 times.
Exception: Materials owned by HSL are generally available for a 3-week loan.
Music Scores & Sound Recordings
Music scores and sound recordings will only circulate from the Music & Arts Library. These items have barcodes that begin with MR.
Butler Media videos and DVDs will only circulate from Butler Reserves/Media Center (208B Butler Library). These items have barcodes that begin with CV.
Special collection items can only be viewed at their owning library location. Contact the owning library or department for additional information.
