Columbia University Libraries to Host An Evening with Ric Burns: Documentary Filmmaker

NEW YORK, October 24, 2003 As part of Columbia University’s celebration of its 250th anniversary, the Friends of the Columbia Libraries is pleased to present An Evening with Ric Burns: Documentary Filmmaker on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at 5:30 P.M. The event will take place in the Roone Arledge Cinema, Lerner Hall, on the Columbia University campus, 2920 Broadway at 115th Street.

Ric Burns’s films have appeared on national public television for nearly two decades. His most recent work, Columbia University: A Celebration, is scheduled to air on Channel 13/WNET on October 30, 2003. The award-winning filmmaker graduated from Columbia College in 1978 with a B.A. in English Literature, and later earned a graduate degree in English Literature from Columbia University in 1983.

Burns is best known for his 8-part series New York: A Documentary Film, which received an Emmy and a Columbia-Dupont Award for excellence in broadcast journalism. He also co-wrote and, with his brother Ken, produced the public television series The Civil War. His film Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film debuted on public television in spring 2002, and he is currently working on film biographies of Andy Warhol and Eugene O’Neill.
