Looking For Video Recordings?

You can limit your search to video recordings formats (e.g. VHS, DVD, etc.) using either the Quick Limit or Pre-set Limits options. Limits can only be set for Keyword or Title searches, so you must use one of these searches when looking for video recordings.

Using a Quick Limit:

  • Before entering your search terms, click on Video Recordings in the Quick Limit menu.
  • Select a keyword or title search and enter your search terms.

Using Pre-set Limits:

  • Before entering your search terms, click on the Pre-set Limits icon.
  • Go to the Format menu and click on Visual Materials.
  • Click on Set Limits icon.
  • Select a keyword or title search and enter your search terms.

Keyword Searching

You can formulate your search to retrieve visual materials by adding the word videorecording (spelled as one word) to your keyword search.

    Example:

  • videorecording vertigo

You can limit your search to DVD or VHS (videocassette) format by adding one of these terms to your keyword search.

    Example:

  • DVD "feature films"
  • VHS alphaville

To retrieve a browsable list of all video recordings, do a keyword search on the term alone:

    Example:

  • videorecording

Subject Searching

Subject searching can be used to separate out broad categories of video recordings. Three examples of the most widely used headings are:

  • feature films
  • documentary films
  • television programs

These headings can by used by themselves as subjects, or added as a phrase to a keyword search.

    Example:

  • "documentary films"  mexico
