The presentation will provide an overview of the Malaysian national IT agenda towards achieving "VISION 2020" and will focus on the initiative taken by libraries in the country in developing the National Digital Library System (PERDANA) as a means to support the transition to a knowledge-based economy. Constraints and challenges faced in the development of local content will be discussed and will include the concept of the International Islamic Digital Library.
