APIS Plus: "The Papyrological Workbench" Initiative

The study of ancient papyri (literary and documentary texts written in Greek, Latin, Arabic, Coptic, Demotic, Hieratic, etc.) has witnessed the emergence of numerous useful digital resources in the United States and Europe. "The Papyrological Workbench" is an initiative that seeks to draw on these resources, combining individual pieces of information into a single search, retrieval and display engine. Rodney will discuss the many advantages of this initiative, as well as the challenges faced trying to ensure the interoperability of an eclectic mix of international digital projects.

The digital presentation of Ling long, a nineteen-thirties women's magazine from China richly illustrated with photographs, is unique because of the magazine's format, which reads inwards from both covers. This format posed challenges to DKV when designing a website that would capture the experience of reading the magazine. Kathryn will speak about the puzzle and its solutions; Amy will address the importance of Ling long for scholarly research.
