The U.S. book industry is intensely preoccupied with the challenges posed by technology and what those challenges might mean for the future of publishing and bookselling. Innovation and experimentation are pervasive, yet much of the infrastructure needed to support a digital publishing industry is still in an early stage of evolution. In this presentation, Michael Healy, Executive Director of the Book Industry Study Group, will provide an overview of the current scene and argue for the importance of new standards to support the new realities.
