Description
Staff from CCNMTL and CDRS will share their collaborative experience working on the Black Rock Virtual Forest Initiative. The Virtual Forest Initiative is an online framework that supports and enhances research, education, and community activities at Black Rock Forest through an online portal of searchable, downloadable forest datasets and educational resources intended for use by scientists, educators, and community members. CCNMTL has developed a suite of web-based learning tools that utilizes Black Rock Forest's rich archive of scientific records such as environmental monitoring station and tree data. CDRS has defined how the Forest staff can evolve its data management practices into a systematic set of protocols, and prototyped a model of data conversion scripts that will allow the Forest to eventually make its entire collection of data available for research and integration into educational experiences.
Black Rock Forest is located 50 miles north of New York City in the Hudson Highlands. The Virtual Forest Initiative is a CCNMTL Digital Bridges Initiative project.
