Description
Based at the The New York Public Library's landmark central branch on 42nd Street, NYPL Labs has been widely heralded in recent years for its innovative approach to delivering special collections and archival material online. The unit operates as a sort of in-house tech startup at the research libraries, working closely with curators on digital projects that transform collections into new types of data, and engage new audiences through user participation and crowdsourcing. In this talk, Labs' manager Ben Vershbow will give a tour of recent projects, detail the team's methods and approach, and ponder the evolving role of memory organizations in the digital age.
