Request Mechanisms in Detail
The guidelines on the pages listed below will help staff correctly submit ReCAP requests for both patrons and staff. Staff placing ReCAP requests for personal use should do so via CLIO. If you have questions or problems, please contact the ReCAP Coordinator (zl2114@columbia.edu).
For a schematic that describes how ReCAP mechanisms work, please view the ReCAP Request Mechanisms (.pptx) presentation.
There are several request mechanisms to choose from on the ReCAP Request Forms website. Guidelines for each are given on the following pages:
- Mediated Request
Standard mechanism of most staff requests for both patrons and staff. Mediated Request allows several more delivery options than requesting via OPAC. - Morningside/HSL ILL Request
Two separate mechanisms used exclusively by ILL staff at Morningside (307 Butler) and HSL - Non-CLIO Request
Used to request items at ReCAP that do not have bib records in CLIO. Request form asks for barcode input, rather than Voyager Bib ID. Non-CLIO Requests also provide a work-around for encoding irregularities or database maintenance errors - Restricted Access Request
Used for special collections with restricted access permissions. Link to the request form is controlled by UNI. Only authorized staff may place access the site. Contact zl2114@columbia.edu or witte@columbia.edu to add staff - Barcode Removal (Permanent Withdrawal)
Used to alert ReCAP when barcode is permanently withdrawn from the Offsite collection
