How to Order
ReCAP supplies comes through several different sources. Under each description are instructions about how to order.

Pink ReCAP Stickers
Pink RECAP stickers help staff distinguish between accessioned books and those in process of transfer (new accessions). The sticker provides a visual cue that the book must be returned to ReCAP via circulation. Instructions on how to apply pink stickers.
Each sheet contains 105 stickers.

Dumb Barcodes (not Smart Barcodes)
For information about "smart" barcodes, view the Smart Barcodes page.
Barcode sheets used for processing sets, serials and select single-volume monographs. They are applied manually (ad hoc) by processing staff.
For some customer codes duplicate and triplicate barcodes are available.

Plastic Cable Ties (Tie Wraps)
Tie wraps are used to fasten down the lids of gray plastic totes. They provide both stability and security during retrieval and transfer.

Wire Cutters
Small wire cutters are used to cut the plastic ties that fasten down the lids of gray plastic totes. Wire cutters provide easy access to contents.

Tyvek Envelopes
Tyvek envelopes are used to house fragile material. Envelopes are printed with the crown logo and "Columbia University Libraries Off-site". A button & string fastener can be found on the rear. Flimsy objects should be given an acid-free cardboard support.

Acid-Free Cardboard
Used to provide support and protection for flimsy or damaged items inside envelopes.

Extension String
Red or white string is used to extend the string on Tyvek envelopes. The item inside the envelope may be so small that the second button fastener is covered by the flap. Cut a length of string to the appropriate length. Tie a square knot and trim excess.

Cotton Tape (Binding String)
Used to secure damaged volumes with separate hinges or badly damaged bindings.

Used to orient archive material. May be used on all appropriate material to indicate correct handling.

Metal handle used to wrap carts with shrink film. This model preferred by staff.

Handy Cutter
Used to easily cut plastic wrap. Carts used to transfer over-size material are wrapped in plastic by ReCAP staff. Also called film cutter, snappy hooker or safety knife.

Tags used on Clancy-Cullen transfer carts of items going to ReCAP. Fill in corresponding customer code and date. Attach to cart with tape.
Supply available from Clancy-Cullen. Or use tag document and print on light blue paper.
Barcode Duplicator
Used to duplicate barcodes on ReCAP collections. Primarily for boxed, archival collections. Used if barcode placement is incorrect or if box is in poor physical condition.
Approximate cost: $1,100. Symbology programmed for Code39 on 2" x 5/8" stickers.

Plastic Totes
Plastic totes to supplement ReCAP's supply during periods of high activity. Two-flap folding lid.

Wooden Transfer Cart (Crown Cart)
Used to transfer new acquisitions from BSP to ReCAP and for routine delivery of requests.
30 carts purchased from Clancy-Cullen in 2009-2010. Carts repaired, adjusted and painted by facilities and CUL staff. Top shelf removed to lower center of gravity, painted yellow, property stamp applied to both sides and top shelf.
Carts are numbered individually 1-30.

Forms
O5 (Mediated Request Form)
Form O5 is the document used by CUL for mediated requests. Mediated requests are placed by staff on behalf of library patrons. They are most commonly used when a patron does not have an active UNI to place requests in CLIO.
Departments use Mediated Request Forms for record keeping purposes. It is not required to fill out a form before placing a mediated request online. Please refer to department policy.
