An interview with Jeremy Varon conducted May 12, 2011 by Ronald J. Grele for the Columbia Center for Oral History, Rule of Law Oral History Project.
Jeremy Varon is an Associate Professor of History at the New School, New York, and has focused his career around the 1960s movements, European and American history, and politics and ethics of violence. He is the author of the 2004 book Bringing the War Home: The Weather Underground, The Red Army Faction, and Revolutionary Violence in the Sixties and Seventies, and a co-editor of The Sixties: A Journal of History, Politics and Culture. Since the early 2000’s Prof. Varon has been involved in the work of Billionaires for Bush and Witness Against Torture. Highlights of this interview include discussions of the 2008 election of Barack Obama, the Witness Against Torture organization, political and social activism, and the War on Terror in the context of the history of American foreign policy.
