Digital Humanities Center
Columbia University Libraries' Digital Humanities Center (DHC) provides a range of scanning, OCR, and media-editing services, as well as access to other specialized software.
The DHC is located in Butler 305 and is open for walk-in hours. Please contact us at dhc@library.columbia.edu if have any additional questions about the specialized software or equipment that we offer.
The Digital Humanities Center has six dedicated high-end text and image scanners, as well as access to ABBYY FineReader (Abbyy Fine Reader User Guide), Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop, allowing users to produce either image files or machine-readable texts.
Four of the scanners can handle large-format items, and one can be used to scan multiple numbers of slides and other transparencies. Staff are available to provide assistance in the use of this equipment and advice about how to create the files most suitable for your project.
Work with digital video, audio, and multimedia design using Apple equipment that features a suite of tools for editing, captioning, and producing content such as Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro.
The Digital Humanities Center provides the following equipment for video playback:
- Blu-ray/DVD multi-region players (x2)
- VCR for multi-region VHS (x1)
- 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player (x1)
Digital Music Lab
The Libraries' Digital Music Lab (DML), located in the Music & Arts Library in 701 Dodge, has expert staff and equipment to allow user to play, compose, record, scan, notate, edit, program, and analyze digital audio and music scores.
Research Data Services
Research Data Services provides support and consultation for Columbia community members working with data management, visualization, and storage, as well as GIS and mapping.
