All students, faculty staff, or anyone with library borrowing privileges can use the app or the self-check kiosk to check out a book when they are physically in Butler Library. To download the app initially, you must be physically present in Butler Library. In the future, the app may be available in other library locations.

A book that is eligible for self-check may not check out properly for a number of reasons. The book may have been mis-shelved from another library location, may be in a non-circulating collection, or may have a barcode that is placed in a difficult location for the barcode scanner to reach. Here’s what to do if the barcode won’t work:

If this issue happens during Butler Circulation hoursplease visit the 3rd floor circulation desk.

If this issue happens outside Butler Circulation hours, please leave the book in the book drop near the circulation desk and return when the service desk opens.

If your book is not released properly, it will set off the alarm as you exit Butler Library. If you encounter a problem releasing the book before you leave, here’s what to do:

If this issue happens during Butler Circulation hoursplease visit the 3rd floor circulation desk.

If this issue happens outside Butler Circulation hours, please leave the book in the book drop near the circulation desk. Returning the book to a drop box will remove the charged book from your account.
