About the Periodicals & Microforms Reading Room
The Periodicals & Microforms Reading Room provides browsable access to current periodicals and serials, plus access to an extensive onsite microform collection. Located in Butler Library, the room is equipped for copying and scanning portions of physical materials, and viewing microfilm and microfiche collections. The room is also a study space open to all users of Butler Library. Staff are present at all times to assist users with equipment and requests.
Finding Microforms, Serials, Journals, Newspapers, and Magazines in CLIO
Periodicals in Butler Library are searchable in CLIO by format type, title, and more. Print and microform titles may be housed in multiple locations within the building.
Check the location information for a particular title in CLIO to see shelving details.

Access to Digital Subscriptions
Columbia faculty, students, and staff can access free personal digital subscriptions to select publications listed below. Library users do not need to be on campus to use these subscriptions. Individual registration is required. Library users can also access thousands more newspaper and journal subscriptions through CLIO.

Access to Print Subscriptions and Microforms
Library users with access privileges to Butler Library can access the browsable library of current physical newspaper and magazine subscriptions.
The microforms and print collections are browsable. The Periodicals & Microforms Reading Room collection cannot be checked out.
If you know exactly what you’re looking for, place a Scan & Deliver request in CLIO. (What is Scan & Deliver?)
Those without a UNI should contact pmrr@columbia.edu to request a viewing appointment with their desired material. Appointment requests should be made at least three business days in advance.
Titles not available at Columbia University can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
