Clarence Crase Thomas

Lieutenant Clarence Crase Thomas, U.S. Navy, died April 28, 1917, 120 miles west of the Hebrides Islands. He was the first U.S. Naval Officer killed in World War I. His ship, the USS Vacuum, a tanker, was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat. His name is inscribed at Missing in Action or Buried at Sea Tablets of the Missing at Brookwood American Cemetery, Brookwood, England.
