Holcomb E. M. Jones

First Lieutenant Holcomb E.M. Jones died August 8th, 1943, at the age of 28, of injuries he received in a plane crash in Alaska. As a member of the 54th Troop Carrier Squadron, he was in the North Pacific sector transporting men and supplies. In 1948, it was announced that his body was to be brought back to Connecticut where he was ultimately buried in his hometown of New Britain. He had initially been interred in a military cemetery in Alaska. "Hokes," as he was called, had been an extremely popular member of the Class of 1940, had been voted "most handsome" and the permanent class president. After a short stint working for the Vick Chemical Company in New York, he joined the Army Air Forces (AAF).
