C.V. Starr East Asian Library

The C.V. Starr East Asian Library is one of the major collections for the study of East Asia in the United States, with materials in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, Mongol, Manchu, and western languages, including books (both print and electronic), periodicals, newspapers, audio-visual material, databases, and more. The Libraries welcomed members of the Class of 1989 to an exhibit of materials from our special collections, curated specifically for '89 graduates by Libraries staff and including items from the C.V. Starr East Asian Library related to the Spring 1989 Democracy Movement in China.

Archivists, curators, and subject specialists highlight a number of noteworthy acquisitions, conservation projects, and digitization efforts that are underway in 2023, including the Fly Papers that are now held by the Rare Book & Manuscript Library.

The C.V. Starr East Asian Library will be closed for critical improvements to its fire alarm and fire suppression technologies from May 2023 through January 2024. The library's collections and services will be modified during this time.

The prolific career of Chinese filmmaker Wango Weng receives long-overdue attention in a recent virtual event co-hosted by the C.V. Starr East Asian Library, which holds a collection of his films.
