Temporary Changes to Library Services

Thank you for your continued support of Columbia University Libraries. The Libraries staff wish to inform all students, faculty, staff, and users of a change taking place over the summer that may affect the availability of Library materials and services.

We have been excitedly preparing for over a year to transition our main integrative library system (used for tracking what books are checked out to whom, reserves, late fees, and nearly every other function essential to the library). We are thrilled to be adopting EBSCO FOLIO and look forward to streamlining many of our services to the community with this new system.

As many may guess, this will be a large transition, affecting our circulation records and other everyday digital resources. The transition is scheduled for mid-June to mid-July. During this time period, there will be service interruptions to core Library systems and resources.

You can visit any service desk at any Library location or email aspsc@library.columbia.edu with questions or concerns you may have. Please see below for a full list of interruptions and guidance on using Library services during this time.

CLIO

Item availability may not be accurate during this time. We recommend using Borrow Direct or Interlibrary Loan if you have trouble using CLIO to access an item.

My Borrowing Account

There will be no access to My Borrowing Account starting June 16th.

Returning Items

Library staff will be unable to remove items from user accounts. Starting June 30th, any materials that are returned to a Library service point will remain on your account until our system transition is complete. Users may continue to receive automated notices from the Libraries about overdue and lost items at this time. While you can return material at any library, we encourage all users to hold onto any Library materials until after mid-July.

Checking Out Items

Users may still check out materials from any Library location on Columbia’s campuses after June 16th. However, these items may not appear on your official Library records until after mid-July.

Offsite

Users will not be able to request physical delivery from the Offsite (Columbia owned and Shared Collection materials) starting June 12th. You may request any needed materials from Borrow Direct or Interlibrary Loan. Users may continue to submit scan requests.

Community CUIDs

Community CUID production for approved visitors will be suspended from June 30th until July 8th. Additionally, Library staff are unable to make any updates to borrowing accounts for any Community Visitors starting June 30th. Any questions regarding Community CUIDs and/or borrowing privileges for approved visitor groups can be directed to lio@columbia.edu

Please visit any service desk at any Library location or email aspsc@library.columbia.edu with questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this transition!
