“We are thrilled to welcome Mark Newton as our Director of the Center for Digital Research and Scholarship,” said Rob Cartolano, Associate Vice President, Digital Programs and Technology Services, Columbia University Libraries.  “Mark’s experience in partnering with faculty on digital scholarship projects, scholarly communications and institutional repository services will be invaluable as CDRS and the Libraries expand our services in support of research, teaching and learning."

With experience in open repository service development and outreach on scholarly communication issues, Mark has overseen the development and launches of digital scholarship partnership projects at CDRS such as Digital Dante and the Women Film Pioneers Project as well as the expansion of the CDRS journal publishing program. Mark has also participated in the NEH-funded Humanities CORE collaboration with the Modern Language Association, and he currently serves as the co-editor of the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication. Mark comes to Columbia with a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois.
