Teaching with RBML

RBML’s staff collaborate with faculty and instructors from Columbia, area colleges and universities, and K-12 schools to incorporate our collections into their teaching.

We offer instruction sessions with a range of goals, from basic introductions to primary sources to semester-long courses taught using RBML’s collections.

Please use our Instruction Request Form to request a course session.

LitHum Core courses should not be requested using this form; please follow the instructions emailed to you by the Core Office.

General requests for tours or visits should be sent to rbml@columbia.edu.

Course session guidelines

  • Availability is limited and instruction requests are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please contact us using the Instruction Request Form as soon as you decide to include RBML in your teaching.

  • All instruction requests must be received before the start of the semester's classes in which the session will take place.

  • Instructors must attend all sessions held in RBML. We strongly encourage booking sessions during your usual course meeting day/time.

  • Every course session that convenes in RBML spaces must be using RBML materials.

  • Assignments using RBML materials are welcome with advance notice. Please be in touch with us as early as possible to discuss the assignment, the materials being used, and the number of students in your course.

  • For courses coming to RBML for the first time, a consultation with staff may be required.
  • RBML staff reserve the right to decline requests based on the condition or availability of materials.

Instructors are able to request materials for their session via their Special Collections Research Account
