Sergeant Philip Rapoport, Company M, 308th Infantry, U.S. Army, was killed in action on September 5, 1918. Sergeant Rapoport was a graduate of New York City College and Teachers College and was a high school teacher before becoming a member of the 308th Infantry. The Brooklyn Standard Union reported, "The teachers kept in touch with him, watching with interest his promotion from private to corporal and then to sergeant, which rank he held when killed."
