Herbert Ellis Bowden

Lieutenant Herbert E. Bowden, U.S. Army Air Forces, was killed in action at Iwo Jima, March 26, 1945. Originally a member of the New York State National Guard, he entered the Army early in the war and was placed in charge of recruiting for the Army Air Forces in seven midwestern states. He went to the South Pacific in 1944, where he served as public relations officer first for the 11th Bomber Command, stationed in the Marianas Islands, before being transferred to the 21st Fighter Command.
