Captain Thomas Michael Plese, U.S. Army Air Forces, 847th Bomber Squadron, 489th Bomber Group, Heavy was killed in action on September 9, 1944. According to the World War II Honor Roll, Captain Plese received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart. He is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery in Neupre, Belgium.
