First Lieutenant Peter B. Bushey, U.S. Army, was killed on December 22, 1967 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was a stringer for the New York Times while a student at Columbia School of Journalism.

Peter and I "grew up" in the same neighborhood in Bettendorf, Iowa; I could always count on Pete to be honest and" above-board"in any of those childhood games in which "our" group engaged - tag, hide-and-go-seek, etc. He was always a loyal friend, and someone in whom you could confide with the confidence that it would travel "no further." We attended the sam elementary school, also, and I remember that he was very "serious" about that part of his education, too! He will be dearly missed , and I am glad to have so many "treasured" memories of this young man who truly "set an example" for up-coming generations.
