John Elder Hays

John Elder Hays died of influenza on October 16, 1918. He was the manager of the Metal Disintegration Company, started by one of his Columbia professors, E. J. Hall. The government assumed control of the company during the war. The plant manufactured star bombs and other chemicals "necessary for the prosecution of the war."
