Captain George Weeks Polhemus died of brain hemorrhage and cardiac failure at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, D.C., on September 3, 1919. He had had a six-year career in the infantry beginning on November 30, 1912, when he was commissioned second lieutenant.
