Harmon Boultbee Vedder

Sergeant Harmon Boultbee Vedder, Company K, 107th Infantry, U.S. Army, died November 5, 1918. He was twenty-two years old. He died within two months of his brother, who also attended Columbia and was in the same military unit. He enlisted while a sophomore at Columbia in the American fight against Pancho Villa in Mexico, the conflict known as the Mexican Expedition. He remained a member of the 7th Regiment, and when war was declared on Germany, he went first to Camp Wadsworth, where he was promoted to sergeant, and then overseas in May 1918. He died of influenza after serving in the campaigns of the regiment. He is buried in Rouen, France. He was cited for his efficient work under severe fire on September 29, 1918, in the attack on the Hindenburg Line.
Harmon Boultbee Vedder is buried to the Somme American Cemetery near Bony village located to the North of France, Plot D, Row2 Grave 2, in one of the 24 American cemeteries maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.
